Antiquing

Though it wasn't anything like antiquing in Lancaster County (they know how to do it right...especially in Adamstown), today, my wife and I got to hit up table after table of old shiny...things.   Everything from vintage forks formed into bracelets, to skeleton keys, to clothing that no one would be able to go out in public in without being ridiculed, to cupcakes that my wife explained to me were in fact still edible because they apparently were not made in the 40s.  Here are some of my finds...

I know, I know...I just shot some books the other day.  But these are different.  They look all nice bundled up together.

Matryoshka Dolls...ready for a game of checkers.  I'll have you know, I pondered how one would differentiate between the dolls for a game of chess for a good long while...Then I finally realized it could be checkers...or some other game I am unaware of.

Where there is the ability to go antiquing, there too is the ability to take pictures of typewrites. 

Used Bookstore

There is a wonderful little used bookstore about half an hour from where I live.  Some close friends of mine introduced my wife and I to it many years ago, and we have made a point of going there first whenever we are looking for books.  The owner is an extremely sweet woman who is so quick to share some of her new and favorite finds and will tell you anything she knows of the books that you end up buying.  Somehow she seems to know a good deal about every book in her store (which is actually her house).
In that we are moving to Northern Ireland, our book collection had to be cut down significantly.  It was a horrible task that was really quite difficult, but it resulted in us actually acknowledging the good stuff that we have, hopefully making us more inclined to read those that we have not already read.  It also allowed us to donate about 150 books to our favorite used bookstore...this one...

Table Display

This is one of her rooms.  She put a bunch of books about Ireland on this table...in case we were interested in learning more about our destination.

Illuminated

Another room in her house has walls lined with bookshelves.  A little lamp illuminates the books.

Books

We couldn't leave without looking through her newest additions...and the old ones, too.  I ended up grabbing DeLillo's Mao II and Mark Twain's The Innocents Abroad.  My wife grabbed a few as well, though I'm not sure what.

So It Goes.

Today's post is a game.  Someone, anyone, know what book this phrase can be found in.  It's one of my favorite books of all time.  By one of of my favorite authors of all time.

 So it goes.

In my copy, it is found on the bottom of page 214.  Maybe that will help...go to the library and check every book's 214 page.

And Finally...Today's

The composite image that I created for Saturday's post made me want to do one for today.  Sadly, I know of no other engravings on par with that one.  At least not within walking distance.  My bookshelf seemed like something that could benefit from being "panorama-ed."  I was wrong.  What I came up with looks fine, but it is definitely nothing special.  And thus, I reached for my backup.  When all else fails, take a photograph through the viewfinder of another camera.

A Handicap

For those who read really fast, too fast, we have introduced a new method of keeping you going at a more reasonable speed.  All words will be reversed and the ending is instead at the beginning and vice versa.  It's not impossible to read this way, but it will definitely slow you down.  As a side note, that is indeed a beautiful pile of Mister Kurt Vonnegut Jr. sitting right there.  So this story reversal thing...the character in Galapagos begins the book by crawling out of the ocean?...is that how it would work?  

Indoors

It's chilly outside.  This is not the weather I would like to end March with.  I'd even take rainy days if it meant that the temperature wasn't cold enough for a prediction of snow on Friday.  But no, it's chilly out there and I'm not in the mood to venture out into it.  So today's pictures feature the inside of my house.  Here is the first picture...

 

The Study

It goes without saying that if you have upwards of 700 shelved books in a room, you have a study.  Especially if that room is less than 15x15 feet.  I have a study.  

The next picture really doesn't count because it's a photo of my photos.  

I spent much of my free time today matting and framing three of my photos.  All three are for the same customer. Two of the photos are from this site, you might recognize them from an earlier post.  The other one is from my actual shop.  He was looking at this site and liked them so much that he checked out my other site, and shazaam....I sold three photos.  I consider this awesome because these photos are really not my best work.  They are just part of a project to keep me shooting.  But hey, I'm definitely not complaining.

Framed, Matted, and Hung

I always end up hanging my sold photos until I have a chance to deliver or mail them out.  I figure it's a nice, safe, out of the way place.  Plus, they should probably get used to hanging on a wall.
